“Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit.”

In March of 2021, a partnership between the Mancos school district and the Mancos public library began with the idea to create a local, grass-roots resource to create more equitable access to outdoor recreation for Montezuma County residents.
After partnering with the Outdoors Empowered Network (OEN), a national network of community-led, youth-centered outdoor education groups, receiving numerous donations and outdoor gear from local residents, businesses, and organizations, the Mancos Gear Share was born.
OUR MISSION
The MGS is a nonprofit, community-sponsored project dedicated to creating opportunities for local families, youth, and groups that have been historically underrepresented and underserved to experience outdoor spaces and activities.
OUR VISION
The MGS envisions itself as becoming a household name in Montezuma County, and being a place where there are resources and people available to help anyone get out to safely enjoy our local natural and cultural resources
